50 BART Trains Damaged During Power Surge Causing Service Stoppage

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said Thursday that 50 cars were damaged from an odd power surge Wednesday caused when trains zoom over the tracks and are affected by a high spike in voltage, which then damages some propulsion equipment on the train. She said the experts have found “no abnormalities” so far, and simply can’t figure out what’s wrong. There was no service between North Concord and Pittsburg/Bay Point on Thursday. Pete Suratos reports.
