“Dogathon” in Peru, Winners Get Free Dog Food

Hundreds of people took their dogs for a run on Sept. 25 in Peru. A race to promote fun and fitness took place on the streets of Lima, the capital. Dogs and their human companions chose between the two- or four-kilometer races to test their qualities as distance runners. Some ran, some jogged and some took it at a more relaxed pace. The event was five years in the making. Organizers called it “Perroton,” Spanish for “Dogathon.” The winners of the race were awarded one year of free dog food.
