Anteaters Rescued From The Amazon

Two anteaters rescued from the amazon have made their public debut at a zoo in Peru, winning over the hearts of visitors and zookeepers alike. The pygmy anteaters christened Freddy and Paulina measure just five inches and weigh less than one pound. They are believed to be the smallest of their species in the world. In the wild these anteaters are a vulnerable species and the prey of many animals in central and South America. In Lima’s Zoo, they are expected to live a long life after their rescue from the jungle. The big challenge for zookeepers is replicating the wild environments these anteaters were familiar with in the amazon. Zoo officials hope to use their anteater species to promote a conservation program. The pygmy anteater is a solitary animal and gives birth to a single young at a time.
