Arkansas Bridge Set for Demolition Doesn't Budge

After hours of attempts to get Arkansas’s Broadway Bridge to fall, the span has finally been demolished. The bridge was originally set to come down at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. But after explosive charges went off, the bridge refused to budge and the steel arches remained standing. After five hours, crews were finally able to bring down the bridge using cables and a barge. State transportation officials say they don’t know why the explosion did not trigger the planned collapse. The new $98.4 million Broadway Bridge is scheduled to be completed early next year.
