Dogs Discovered in Flooded Kennels

Several dogs left behind when their owners evacuated are safe Monday tonight. Some concerned neighbors out surveying the damage in Lakeland, Florida came across four dogs trapped in flooded kennels with high water surrounding them. One dog was stranded on top of a picnic table. With the help of animal control, the dogs were carried one by one to safety. A good Samaritan describes the dire situation that the dogs were in when they were first discovered. “They’re pretty much on like plywood just kind of floating there, trying to stay afloat, there’s nothing for them to eat, I mean they’re in water, they’re freezing.” The owners had evacuated the home on Sunday ahead of hurricane Irma. They will be able to claim the dogs at the local animal shelter when they return.
