Dogs Participate in Rio Dog Olympic Games

Rio de Janeiro’s dog owners and their canine friends embraced the Olympic spirit and took part in the first ever Rio Dog Olympic Games. Dozens of dogs of different breeds, ages and sizes competed for medals at a private dog club in Brazil’s Olympic City. The events included agility, aquatic ball chasing and aquatic jumping. The organizer of the games said the competition’s goal was to socialize humans and their pets while celebrating sports. The competition was open to all dogs regardless of skills or experience and took place mainly in the club’s swimming pool. Mima, a nine-month-old beagle, competed for the first time and won gold for her performance in aquatic jumping. Organizers hope to hold the event every year.
