Push to Change Name of Justin Herman Plaza Kicks Off

Supervison Aaron Peskin is slated to  introduce legislation calling for the change. It proposes to remove the name from the plaza at Embarcadero and Market Street until a new name is determined. Justin Herman led the city’s redevelopment agency in the 1960s and pushed out African-American communities from the Western Addition. Thousands of people have signed an online petition calling for the name change.
