Rare Bird Returns Home

A rare bird that turned up in Ontario two years ago will finally be flying home across Canada to British Columbia by plane. The bird made Canadian headlines in 2015 when it was likely blown off her migration course and ended up thousands of miles away from her natural habitat. The small, orange-plumed female was found nearly-dead, lying in snow by a birdwatcher and was taken to a wild bird center. The bird, who lost a toenail in frostbite, suffered from dehydration and hypothermia. Now, having fully recovered, the bird will be flown home on an Air Canada plane. Bullock’s orioles are found in the southern parts of British Columbia and Alberta, but their main habitat is in the United States. The bird will likely be released after a week or so, at which point it will probably fly itself to its native wintering grounds in the southern U.S. or northern Mexico .
