SF Supervisor Calls for Hearing on Heat Wave Preparations
New details emerged Thursday regarding response times in San Francisco during the heat wave this past weekend. The fire department says it responded to nearly double the amount of emergency assistance calls. Officials say average response time for emergency vehicles was under seven minutes, which is normal. Ambulances showed up in under 11 minutes. For non-life threatening cases, ambulances arrived in under 18 minutes. Three elderly people died during the record heat. Now there’s finger pointing at city hall. Supervisor Aaron Peskin says he has already called for a hearing about how the city prepared for the heatwave. The medical Examiner’s office is waiting for test results on other death cases so the number of heat-related deaths could go up.
