World's Oldest Pilot is 98-Year-Old Iowan

One Iowa pilot is now in the record books and it’s all thanks to his age. Ernie Smith, the 98-year-old was named by the Guinness Book of World Records as being the oldest active pilot in the world. Getting that esteemed title required a lot of work. Witnesses taped him fly a plane solo back in April as a way to document that Smith is still an active pilot. Smith says he plans to keep flying a rented Cessna 150 a couple of times each week, with weather permitting.
