Heat Peaks Later This Week

A Summer-like spread of microclimates will be around the Bay Area over the next few days with fog cooled 60s and 70s near the coastline and inner bay, 80s around the Peninsula and East Bay, and 80s to mid and upper 90s across the warmest valleys of the interior East Bay and South Bay. Temps should rise slightly higher on Friday, closing in on some spots in the 100-105 range, possibly record territory. Even as temps cool slightly on Saturday (into the upper 80s and mid 90s), clouds should be on the increase ahead of an upper level low that could make for more interesting weather by Sunday. We are expecting cooling as clouds begin to increase and winds turn slightly more onshore. However, increasing mid-level moisture and vertical motion in the atmosphere may provide the fuel/trigger for isolated thundershowers especially near the hills. Given how dry the boundary layer will be after several days of heat, these conditions should they develop may increase fire danger concerns due to lightning strikes and sudden wind gusts near thunderstorms. Stay tuned.
