Hot Valleys, Increasing Clouds

High pressure will begin to loosen its grip over the Bay Area, albeit slightly on Monday as onshore winds begin to pick up. This should be enough to allow for some coastal and inner bay cooling, but not much relief is expected inland for another day with plenty of 90s expected inland. As a trough of low pressure drops down the coast, we’ll see more significant inland cooling likely Tuesday into Wednesday. The next main item of concern is subtropical moisture thrown northward by weakening Tropical Storm Paine. For now it appears the Central Coast and especially into Southern California will have the best chance for showers and isolated thunder which may increase the risk for lightning sparked fires. We will see increasing clouds likely late Monday through Tuesday as well, though shower chances for now appear to be to our south and east. However if deeper layer mid-level moisture can get pulled a little further to the north by the approaching Pac NW trough, we may see a risk for thunder along the coastal range as well mainly south of San Jose…so stay tuned.
