Rob's Forecast: Stormy Sunday

A storm typical of mid-December will race through the Bay Area during the day Sunday. While conditions may be relatively tame early in the morning, plan on wind and rain increasing during the afternoon and into the evening. Brief thunder will also be possible as the front moves through from mid-pm to 11pm Sunday. Rain totals should be in the .33” to 1.50” range with highest totals likely near the North Bay hills and Santa Cruz mountains, though rain rates at times will support > 0.50” totals in the lower elevations as well, possibly warranting some unban flood advisories as the heavier rains push through. A high surf warning will be active on the coast into Monday evening with sets in the 20-30 ft range and higher breakers possible. Some localized coastal flooding will be possible especially early Monday morning as wave heights near their peak near high tide.
