Watching Waves and Wind

Gusty winds will keep Red Flag Warnings up for the hills above 1,000 ft. into mid afternoon across the Bay Area. Meanwhile a large long period swell hitting the coastline should help power up waves at Mavericks today with some 30-40 foot front faces and clearly warrants the high surf advisory on the coastline. We’ll see variable clouds at times today as an upper level low lifts northwestward(!) from the Bay Area before high pressure strengthens over the Bay Area again. Temps will again climb into the 70s in the warmest spots, with some mid 70s likely by next Wednesday inland. Long range, there’s hope we’ll have a chance for some rain returning into the first weekend of February as the long absent jet stream begins dropping southward, closer to California again.- Rob Mayeda
