Google Town USA Is in the Midwest

Kansas City, Kansas didn't need to change its name or promise its first born but the Midwest town will still be the home of Google's first experimental high-speed Internet network.

The Mountain View-based company announced the winner of its coveted high-speed Internet service that is 100 times faster than the average Internet connection in the country. This is not Kansas City, Missouri, but the much smaller city across the Kansas-Missouri state line.

After Google first announced it would provide the super high speed Internet service for one city in the country, dozens began to write the search giant promising to change its city's name to Google or offering to name all their babies after the company.

For its part, Google is not looking to get into the Internet service business but instead the company wants to demonstrate how faster Internet connections can be delivered across the country.

Google said it chose the Kansas city for a variety of reasons, including the layout of the city and local cooperation.

“In selecting a city, our goal was to find a location where we could build efficiently, make an impact on the community and develop relationships with local government and community organizations. We’ve found this in Kansas City," Google said in a statement.

If the Kansas City experiment turns out to be a success, Google could potentially role out the service in other cities as well.
