Randy Gyllenhaal is a reporter and anchor for NBC5, leading the station’s Saturday evening newscasts.
He joined WMAQ in 2023 after nearly a decade at sister station NBC10 in Philadelphia.
His work has earned multiple Emmy Awards from the Chicago/Midwest and Mid-Atlantic chapters, and from the Society of Professional Journalists
In Chicago, Randy reported extensively on the deployment of federal immigration agents to the city, the election of Chicago-born Pope Leo, and the local political impacts of the second Trump administration.
While in Philadelphia, he covered the 2016 and 2020 elections in battleground Pennsylvania and followed the Philadelphia Eagles to their Super Bowl LII victory in Minneapolis.
Randy has covered the aftermath of numerous natural disasters, from tornadoes to historic flooding, and hurricanes in South Florida for WPBF in West Palm Beach.
He began his career in New England at WPTZ where he was among the first reporters in hard-hit flood zones after Hurricane Irene.
Randy graduated from Elon University in North Carolina with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. He’s originally from Glenview and lives in the North Suburbs with his wife and two children. He enjoys riding his bike, exploring trails, and serves on the board of his Church.
