Ellie Goulding must have done something right to be reportedly the only invited singer to play at the wedding reception of British newlyweds Prince William and Princess Catherine.
The British pop star, 24, had the honor of performing for the new royal couple on Friday at Buckingham Palace, Us Weekly reported. Goulding told the magazine following day: "It was an amazing honor to be asked by Kate and William to perform at their party. The atmosphere was incredible and it is a night I'll never forget!"
At the reception, Goulding performed a cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” and her own song “Starry-Eyed” to a crowd of 300 guests and the royal couple. E! News said William and Kate are big fans of the singer.
Goulding—who led the BBC Sound of 2010 poll--is a popular star in her native Britain thanks to her successful album “Lights,” which hit Number One on the charts and spawned several hits. She has performed at the Glastonbury Festival and most recently at Coachella, and has opened for John Mayer on his tour of England.
There will be more of Goulding for American audiences to see and hear: She’ll be the musical guest on this week’s “Saturday Night Live” with Tina Fey as host.
