Green Lantern is Now Gay

DC Comics superhero comes out of closet.

The Green Lantern is out -- though we never knew he was in.

The DC Comics superhero will come out as young and gay in the reboot of the comic book series, the company announced Friday -- a move that appeared to arise more interest among competing interest groups.

"Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models?" asked One Million Moms, which answered its own question. "They don't but do want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light."

Hmm. GLAAD responded, saying, "The idea that a comic book character will make young people gay is as outlandish as saying it will give them a green power ring and the ability to fly. Even more outlandish is the idea that there are 'one million moms' who believe this hate group's anti-gay nonsense."

The new Lantern is "an unmarried media mogul." Since there are 7,200 or so members of the Green Latern corps, at least a few should be gay -- statistically speaking.

The gay Green Lantern debuts in the second issue of "Earth 2," which ships next week, the Contra Costa Times reported.
