Oakland Police Investigate City's First Homicide of 2018 Hours Into New Year

Oakland police on Monday were investigating the city's first homicide of 2018 just hours into the new year, according to the department.

One person was killed, and one person was taken into custody, police said.

The homicide occurred at or near the corner of 54th Avenue and Crittenden Street, according to police.

A firearm was used in the killing, but further details were not made available.
