A woman died Friday night when the minivan she was driving rammed head-on into a tree in a center median on Lawrence Expressway in Sunnyvale, public safety officials said.
The collision, which occurred north of Sandia Avenue, occurred around 9:30 p.m. and involved only one vehicle, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said on Saturday. The woman was the sole occupant of the car.
Officials have not yet identified the victim.
All northbound lanes of Lawrence Expressway were closed and three southbound lanes were closed for several hours, according to authorities.
An investigation is ongoing, but it remains unknown whether alochol or drugs played a part in the deadly crash.
