Woman Beaten With Hammer Over Rent Dispute

A woman was seriously beaten with a hammer and golf club by her roommates and then forced to walk the streets as a prostitute after failing to pay her share of rent, Sacramento police said.

Three of the victim's roommates were taken into custody on suspicion of kidnapping and other charges early Monday after the 25-year-old victim got help by a man who drove her to safety, according to a police report.

Police said the victim was attacked by her roommates early Sunday afternoon somewhere in the Woodbine area of south Sacramento. Police did not release the exact address, but the neighborhood is located near the intersection of 24th Street and Florin Road.

The report said the victim's two women roommates -- identified as 27-year-old Myesha Collins and 18-year-old Asia Kinslow -- began beating her and kept her imprisoned for several hours. One of the women attackers had previously dated the victim, police added.

Very early Monday morning, the victim was forced to clean up her wounds, put on makeup and dress as a prostitute. She was driven to an area along Watt Avenue just south of Roseville Road and told to start turning tricks to raise the rent money she owed, the report said.

A short time later, a man drove up and began talking to the victim. She said she needed help, so he drove her back to the area of 24th Street and Florin Road and dropped her off, the report added. She then called police.

Collins was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, assault, battery, false imprisonment, pimping, making threats and conspiracy. Bail was set at $150,000.

Kinslow was booked into jail on suspicion of kidnapping, battery, false imprisonment, conspiracy and pimping. Bail was set at $100,000.

Also arrested was roommate Derek Sheppard, 26, who faces charges of kidnapping, conspiracy, pimping and violating parole. He was being held in jail without bail. This article originally appeared on KCRA.com
