Border Kid Advocates Attack Obama Administration

Refugee and immigration advocates criticized the Obama administration on Wednesday, saying that future funding should focus not on beefing up border enforcement, but ensuring that children and women with legitimate claims of asylum due to violence or trafficking get their day in immigration court. Those against asylum argue that the journey is risky for kids and that poor conditions back home don't mean thousands of migrants can come to the U.S. The White House announced Tuesday that it is asking Congress for $3.7 billion in emergency funds to address the rapid influx of migrant children, who are fleeing to the U.S. to escape poverty and gang violence back home.
