iPhone 6: Faster, Skinnier, Sharper — and More Secure?

The new iPhone 6 will  be skinnier, faster, sharper and larger than its predecessors, but some were hoping for a little more pizzazz than a new Apple payment system.

The latest iPhone model comes in two different sizes, but both are bigger than previous phones. The models have a 4.7-inch display and a 5.5-inch display as an obvious appeal to those heavy users who watch a lot of video.

The rounded design hearkens back to the iPad mini, according to the Verge, but both have Retina HD display, and a skinny 6.9 mm thick body. One of the big differences is the placement of the home button to the left, as well as a faster A8 processor and other high tech. As for battery life, users can expect 14 hours of talking, but only 11 hours of video playback. While these figures are better than the iPhone 5S, some are lamenting that the video play time is only slightly better.

The new iPhone sports LTE advanced with speeds as high as 150Mbps, so expect speed. This includes digital image stabilization, a fast, auto-focused camera with sharper and bigger photos (up to 43MP!) Video also is improved with more frames per second.

Also, Apple is using the iPhone 6 as a way to hawk its new Pay system that uses an NFC chip to make purchases. Around 220,000 locations will work with the platform, including Subway, McDonald's, Walgreens, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Staples, Whole Foods and others. The new system is supposedly much more secure and private than previous incarnations, according to Apple

“Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you’re using Apple Pay in a store, restaurant or other merchant, cashiers will no longer see your name, credit card number or security code, helping to reduce the potential for fraud,” Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services said in a statement.

Instead of credit card and debit card numbers circulating, it uses a one-time unique number and security code to validate transactions. Apple Pay will ramp up in October.

The iPhone will launch  Sept. 19 with the iOS 8, and come in three colors: gold silver and space gray. The prices start at $199 for a two-year contract for the 16GB model.

The new iPhone is probably a must for those iPhone 5 or iPhone 5 users looking for a new, updated phone, but the device's speed and Retina HD display may persuade some heavy content users. However, when compared to the innovation of the new Apple Watch, the iPhone 6 just seemed to fall a little flat.
