Travel into Elkhorn Slough between Santa Cruz and Monterey.  Elkhorn Slough is a wild refuge for many hundreds of sea mammals, including otters, harbor seals and sea lions… and is visited by more bird species every year than any other place on the west coast.  Fortunately, we’ll discover the slough has been saved against long odds by the determination and diligence of concerned citizens.  It’s an easy and extraordinary place to visit, another unlikely surprise sheltered beside the open road.
