Nike released its Air Jordan XI Retro shoes one day early. Originally slated to come out on Christmas Eve 2009, the company said they were releasing the $175 kicks as a special gift to sneaker fans.
Even in retirement basketball legend Michael Jordan can cause a ruckus.
Temperatures dipped into the overnight in the Bay Area but it wasn't cold enough to keep some determined shoppers from sleeping outside -- for a pair of shoes.
But not too cold to get your hands on some Air Jordans.
The Air Jordan Space Jam Retro Eleven shoes went on sale at 8 a.m. Wednesday. While there were only about 20 people waiting in Walnut Creek, police had to be called to a mall in Sacramento to break up a crowd of more than 1,000 shoppers willing to drop $175 on a pair of shoes barring Jordan's silhouette.
And there were a lot of disappointed shoppers. Nordstrom said they had fewer than 50 pairs in stock.
