Bay Area Rapid Transit trains may finally figure out the way to San Jose if a ground-breaking ceremony scheduled for Friday is any indication.

The Valley Transportation Authority will hand some officials gold shovels in order to ceremonially start digging a 16 mile trail that will eventually connect the Warm Springs BART station to downtown San Jose.

The full route is planned to be completed in 2014.

The current project will simply clear a path along a right of way held by the VTA.

Utilities and exiting rail will have to be relocated along the route.

The VTA says that the extension, estimated to cost $6 billion in total, will be built in sections thanks to the credit crunch and municipal deficits.

Jackson West figures it won't be hard to build something faster than CalTrain.
