Amber Alert Ended with Bullets: Coroner

Child was shot twice, but may have died of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The El Dorado County Coroner determined that the father and daughter involved in last week's statewide Amber Alert both suffered gunshot wounds, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Department.

The report showed Mourad Samman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The report showed his 2-year-old daughter, Madeline Layla Samaan-Fay, was also shot twice, but may not have died from those wounds.  The report said they needed to wait on toxicology reports to see if carbon monoxide poisoning caused her death.

Their two bodies were found inside Samann’s SUV Saturday evening. That was one day after the FBI issued an Amber Alert for the little girl after her father failed to return her to her mother earlier in the week.

The parents were involved in a bitter custody battle.
