Best Spots to Watch Fireworks on New Year's Eve in San Francisco

It’s going to be a chilly night - probably in the low 40s - for the annual San Francisco New Year’s Eve Fireworks show.

But crews aren't letting the cold snap slow them down.

The fencing along the water has already been put up so people don’t get any ideas about jumping into the frigid Bay. No parking signs are giving plenty of warning that the waterfront is no place to leave your car. The company, Pyro Spectacular, was preparing the fireworks display. Porta Potties have been installed.

Barricades are at the ready for crowd control - and a friendly reminder to bring plenty of patience as 200,000 people are expected to be here.

All that’s needed now is for the barges to load up the pyrotechnics for the awesome show. The fireworks will be stationed about 1,000 feet from shore, so here are some of the prime locations offering the best views:

  •  South of Sinbad’s restaurant, along the Embarcadero between Mission and Folsom.
  •  Yerba Buena Island / Treasure Island
  •  And a couple of places on Telegraph Hill --- the end of Alta Street and the end of Calhoun Terrace. Remember those last two locations are residential areas where you have to be mindful of the residents.

The fireworks show typically lasts 15 minutes or so.
