Firefighters discovered a pair of unlikely friends while they were battling the massive wildfire in Shasta County.

Grass Valley Firefighters traveled over a hundred miles on July 26 to the area near Redding to assist in controlling the Carr Fire and on their second day, they discovered a cat and a chicken "huddled together for safety and support" in the doorway of a home.

Both of the animals had burns that require treatments, according to the firefighters. The firefighters found a dish and gave them fresh water as they figured out how to take the pair to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Fortunately, firefighters were able to find an animal carrier.

"After some reassurance, Grass Valley firefighters managed to coax the cat and chicken into the carrier where they would be together and safe as they awaited pickup by the SPCA for treatment," firefighters said.

Both creatures are expected to make a full recovery, according to the firefighters.
