Driver Crashes Through SJ Airport Runway Fence

The scene could have been a lot worse at San Jose International Airport, where a driver crashed into a protective fence near the runways overnight and landed in a danger zone.

Barricades and caution tape mark the section of fence where a driver in an Infiniti sedan shot off Central Expressway, crashed through fences and slammed into a retaining wall sometime around 2 a.m. Thursday. Police say the driver was drunk.

The car stopped short of the blast fence, which blocks plane exhaust. The car didn't make it to the runway and there was never a security risk, police said.

The driver was taken to Valley Medical Center and will face DUI charges.
