Man Who Spent Night on Top of Golden Gate Bridge In Custody

Police nab man who climbed south tower of bridge.

A jail cell may not be as scenic as the top of the Golden Gate Bridge, but it's probably warmer.

A man who spent Thursday night on top of one of the Golden Gate Bridge's two towers is now in police custody, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Authorities headed to the bridge at 6:15 p.m. Thursday to respond to reports of a man threatening to kill himself.

Instead, the man, who is not identified, climbed up onto the cables and scaled the south tower of the bridge.

He remained there until sometime before 9:40 a.m. Friday, when police used the elevator to scale the tower and found the man, who is now in the care of psychiatric services provider.
