No Comeback Necessary: A's Hold on to Sweep Rangers

After two dramatic come-from-behind wins, the A's never trailed Thursday evening and held on to beat the Rangers 7-6, completing a four-game sweep in Texas.

It's the A's sixth straight win and they are now 18 games over .500 at 61-43.

On previous nights, the A's rode the long ball to victory. On this night, they homered just once, but legged out four triples off Rangers pitchers. Matt Chapman accounted for the home run and two of the four triples. Dustin Fowler and Nick Martini had the other two.

Things got interesting for Blake Treinen in the bottom of the ninth as he allowed the tying run to reach second base with no outs. But the All-Star closer wiggled out of the jam and recorded his 27th save.

Trevor Cahill got through five innings for the A's, but he struggled along the way. After his offense scored twice in the first inning, Cahill gave both runs back in the bottom of the inning. In the second, the A's reclaimed the lead on Chapman's homer. Cahill immediately gave the run back. In the fifth, with the A's up 6-3, Jurickson Profar tripled in two runs off Cahill to cut the lead to 6-5.

On the night, Cahill allowed seven hits, five earned runs and three walks. He struck out four Rangers hitters.

Chapman finished with the night 3-for-3 with three runs scored, one RBI and one walk.

The red-hot A's leave steamy Texas for Colorado where they begin a three-game series with the Rockies on Friday.
