Motorcyclist Killed in Apparent Oakland Hit-and-Run

The California Highway Patrol is looking for a blue truck whose driver may have witnessed or been involved in a fatal motorcycle crash on westbound Interstate Highway 580 in West Oakland Friday morning.

The crash was reported around 6:20 a.m. on westbound Highway 580 near San Pablo Avenue, CHP Officer Daniel Hill said.

Responding officers found the motorcycle in the center median and a man lying in a lane.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and the Alameda County coroner's bureau has yet to identify him.

It appears the motorcyclist turned to the left for unknown reasons and hit the guardrail and center median well. He was ejected from the bike and landed in a lane, Hill said.

The man was struck by a GMC Yukon and a BMW had struck the back of the GMC. The drivers in those vehicles stopped at the scene after the crash, Hill said.

Witnesses said another car, described as an early 2000s-model blue Chevrolet Silverado, swerved around the motorcyclist's body and then left the area.

The CHP is looking for the driver of the Chevrolet to learn more about the crash and determine if the vehicle possibly struck the motorcyclist.

Several westbound lanes were closed for more than two hours because of the crash, snarling the morning commute through the area. The lanes reopened at about 8:45 a.m., according to the CHP.
