San Jose officially has at least two candidates running for mayor in next year's election.
City Councilman Pete Constant filed papers with the city clerk on Tuesday. Constant is a former police officer who has sided with current Mayor Chuck Reed on pension reform.
Councilwoman and vice mayor Madison Nguyen has also filed. She too backed the mayor on reforms, and she survived a recall effort earlier in her term.
Several other councilmembers – including Sam Liccardo – have also indicated they will throw their hats in the race. Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese is also rumored as a potential contender.
The primary election is June 3, 2014.
