An 8-year-old boy went into cardiac arrest after being struck by a baseball during a youth baseball game in Rohnert Park on Saturday, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.
The boy was hit with a pitch and after taking several steps toward first base, he collapsed at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Colegio Vista Park in Rohnert Park.
Two off-duty paramedics - who happen to be Little League parents - were in the stands and rushed onto the field after he collapsed. Dan Farren, a fire capatain/paramedic with the Petaluma Fire Department, performed CPR until an ambulance arrived.
A Rohnert Park Public Safety officer delivered one shock from and Automated External Defibrillator and the boy regained consciousness. He was transported to a local hospital, then flown to Children's Hospital in Oakland.
The condition is not expected to be life-threatening.
