Firefighters Save Cat from Santa Cruz Fire Saturday

Firefighters responded to reports of a house on fire at 719 Emeline Ave. at about 11:10 p.m., according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to reports of a house on fire at 719 Emeline Ave. at about 11:10 p.m., according to the Santa Cruz Fire Department.

As firefighters battled the blaze, they found and resuscitated a pet cat, saving the animal's life.

Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to neighboring homes and the fire was quickly extinguished, though not before significantly damaging the home. Officials said the fire caused about $450,000 worth of damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
