James Logan High Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship with Student

Man was arrested in Hayward on his way to meet the student Thursday.

A high school teacher in Union City was arrested Thursday on criminal misconduct charges stemming from a suspected sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student.

Peter Kolesnikov, a 38-year-old James Logan High School teacher, was arrested in Hayward on his way to meet the alleged victim, according to the Union City Police Department.

The now 17-year-old victim told police the alleged relationship started with kissing, but progressed to meetups at motels in Alameda County.

The assaults allegedly happened during a nine-month period beginning in March of 2011.

Kolesnikov faces charges of statutory rape, oral copulation of a minor and communicating with a minor with intent to commit specified crimes.

A spokesperson for the New Haven Unified School District said Kolesnikov has been on leave since the start of the school year. He has not worked in the district since last June.

The district notified the police after learning about the alleged relationship on Tuesday.

Police believe there may be more victims. Anyone with information should contact the Union City Police Department at 510-675-5225 or email tips@unioncity.org.
