Oakland Big Rig Crash Seriously Injures 1

Driver in critical condition

A big rig crash off of an Oakland freeway injured at least one person, authorities said Wednesday.

A semi cab was completely crushed after it crushed on railroads tracks off of the West Grand off ramp on southbound Interstate 880 in Oakland.

The truck appeared to be from Silicon Roadways, based in Oakland, but the company said it could not confirm that one of their fleet trucks had been involved in an accident. They did say it sounded like one of their trucks when the logo on the cab was described to them.

The crash occurred around noon on Wednesday.  The Oakland Fire Department was working to free the driver of the truck. The California Highway Patrol said the victim was in critical condition but he was still alive.
