School Locked Down After Report of Masked Man, Possibly With Gun

An elementary school in Montara was locked down Thursday morning after a student said he saw a masked male with a gun near the school, San Mateo County sheriff's officials said.

The student reported seeing the person at about 8:45 a.m. outside Farallone View Elementary School at 1100 Le Conte Ave.

The suspicious male was wearing a black ski mask and may have had a gun in his pocket and a knife in his hand, according to sheriff's officials.

The suspect was about 150 yards outside the school's fence line.

Sheriff's personnel, a county parks ranger and a sheriff's airplane searched the nearby and surrounding areas including rural trails and neighborhoods near the school.

Following two hours of searching, law enforcement was unable to find evidence of a person.

The lockdown was lifted and law enforcement worked with school officials to help any parents pick up their children if they wanted to. School officials kept the school open for anyone who stayed at school.

Anyone with information about the suspicious person is asked to call the sheriff's office tip line at (800) 547-2700.
