19 Dead in Mt. Everest Sightseeing Crash

A small plane carrying tourists on a sightseeing tour of Mt. Everest crashed in Nepal Sunday, killing all 19 on board, including two U.S. citizens. The plane went down near the capital of Kathmandu due to bad weather, officials said. One witness said monsoon-related fog made visibility very low and that the plane broke into pieces after hitting the roof of a house. The plane was carrying three crew members, three Nepalese passengers and 13 foreign tourists — 10 of them Indian, two American and one Japanese, according to Nepal's tourism secretary. One of the victims survived the crash but died after being rushed to a hospital.
