Shanahan says he's not certain of the severity of the hamstring injury that occurred on the second day of full-team OTAs this week

The good news for the 49ers is quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looks healthy. After knee surgery and rehab work, Garoppolo took part in drills and appeared mobile in Tuesday’s organized team activities (OTAs).

The bad news was No. 2 overall pick Nick Bosa suffered a hamstring injury and his status for the rest of OTAs is uncertain.

The defensive end, who is expected to start and help revitalize the team’s pass rush (along with another newcomer, Dee Ford), already was coming off surgery to repair a core-muscle injury suffered in his final season at Ohio State.

Bosa was injured while going one-on-one in a drill with offensive linemen. According to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group, Bosa was walking tentatively the rest of the practice while not taking part in further drills, and he walked off the field on his own when practice ended.

Ford, for one, doesn’t believe Bosa will be out long.

“He works very hard,” Ford told Inman. “He’s a really good guy. You hate to see that for a rookie, because he’s really progressing and is going to be important for the defense. He’ll get healthy. He’ll be back. He’ll be fine. It’s important to stay the course. There’s a lot of stuff to get through as a rookie.”

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan after practice confirmed it was a hamstring injury but said he doesn’t know how severe it is or how long Bosa will be out of action.
