MLB free agent tracker: List of 2023-24 offseason signings

The stove was hot.

Some of the top players in baseball -- including American stars and international sensations -- were on the move over the offseason.

The Winter Meetings took place from Dec. 4 to Dec. 7 in Nashville, where the New York Yankees and San Diego Padres worked out a blockbuster trade involving Juan Soto and several key free agents signed with new teams. Days later, the Los Angeles Dodgers landed Shohei Ohtani with a massive $700 million deal.

Who are the best MLB free agents in 2023-24?

The best player available was, undoubtedly, Shohei Ohtani. A two-way star, the reigning AL MVP commanded a record-setting salary from the Dodgers.

Behind Ohtani was another Japanese star: Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The 25-year-old right-handed pitcher won his third MVP in Japan last season while posting a 1.16 ERA in 24 starts for the Orix Buffaloes. After a lengthy process, Yamamoto signed a monster deal to join Ohtani on the Dodgers.

The best hitters on the market entering the offseason, outside of Ohtani, included Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, J.D. Martinez, Teoscar Hernandez and Rhys Hoskins, while pitchers included Blake Snell, Josh Hader, Jordan Montgomery, Eduardo Rodriguez, Lucas Giolito and Marcus Stroman, among others.
