Patrick Corbin agreed to a six-year contract with the Nationals, pending a physical, Jim Bowden of The Athletic reported Tuesday.
Jon Heyman of Fancred reported that Corbin will receive $140 million in the deal from Washington, which bolsters a rotation that already includes Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.
Corbin entered free agency this offseason and drew interest from the Giants, who could have turned the 29-year-old from NL West opponent to teammate. But it's not in the best interest of Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi to take on such a big contract, especially during this offseason with the team open to moving Madison Bumgarner. They're already taking on Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija's massive contracts. And like Alex Pavlovic wrote, MadBum will want a very pricy contract in a year.

The Giants appear to be sitting back and looking for under-the-radar, cheaper starters.
As for the good news, the team will have less exposure to Corbin, who dominated last year.
Across six seasons with the Diamondbacks, Corbin boasted a 3.91 ERA. Last season, he earned an All-Star selection and was even in Cy Young Award talks. No surprise there, as he finished with an 11-7 record and 246 strikeouts in 200 innings. He also had a career-high 2.47 FIP and 11.07 K/9 ratio.

The Yankees also were one of the main teams to consider Corbin, but according to Heyman, the team did not want to go six years with the left-hander.
