Matt Chapman Makes Great Game-Ending Catch in Athletics' Win

Matt Chapman hasn't been himself at the plate during the 2021 MLB season, but his glove hasn't gone into a slump.

The Athletics' third baseman showed again Monday night why he's a two-time Platinum Glove winner, making an incredible running catch up against the wall in foul territory down the left field line to seal a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels at the Coliseum.

The Angels had two runners on and recent acquisition Adam Eaton was at the plate as the potential tying run. But Chapman's catch got reliever Lou Trivino out of the jam.

After the game, manager Bob Melvin told reporters he lost sight of Chapman as he ran towards the wall and didn't realize the catch had been made until he heard the crowd react.

Chapman went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the A's win. His averaged dropped to .222 this season, but that's overlooked on a night like this when he can make a play like that to end the Angels' rally.

The win allows the A's to keep pace with the Houston Astros in the AL West race. Oakland remains 3 1/2 games behind.
