Google Partners With Yahoo to Take Over the Search Market in Japan

Despite Google's recent troubles in China, and the subsequent dire predictions of a Google-less Asia, the company just scored a major coup which will essentially give it 90 percent of the search market in Japan, the second wealthiest country on the planet after America.

The arrangement will have Yahoo Japan hand over its search functions to

and, perhaps more importantly, the company will also use Google's online advertising and distribution systems. This is a major setback for Microsoft's search engine Bing, which is scheduled to take over Yahoo's search functions in the U.S. later this year. Recently the talk has been that Baidu, the search leader in China, was destined to rule Asia's search market, but the balance of power has shifted in a major way and Google is on top once again.
