A PROPER SEPTEMBER HELLO: If you're an oenophile, and consider yourself to be something of a scholar when it comes to what's behind the label, and on the label, and the names on the label, and how all of that information leads to that first special tangy/dry/sparkling sip, then you know September deserves its accolades. After all, it is the month when harvest-y doings are at their most bustling at wineries around the Golden State, making the last stretch of summer, and first stretch of autumn, ripe for a wine-wonderful festivity. But how to properly hold the stem and raise the glass to the start of September? By finding a party that kicks off the ninth month in chardonnay-sweet, cabernet-cool style. Livermore Valley does just that, and has for many years, making it a Labor Day Weekend must-visit for those who love quality libations that begin on the vine. And the 36th annual...

HARVEST WINE CELEBRATION... is ready for its 2017 hello, which will take place on Sunday, Sept. 3. It's a two-day to-do, stretching into Monday, Sept. 4, though note that Saturday is not on the schedule. What is, though? A new location for the event, at Las Positas College. That's where over 40 area wineries will set up sippable shop on Sunday in the pretty space, an alfresco spot that includes "...(v)iews of vineyards and windmills." Food trucks, outdoorsy, on-the-lawn games, and live tunes shall add atmosphere and edibles to the scene. And on Monday? That's when you, your pals, and your awesome designated driver will want to head out to over 30 wineries around the valley. The participating wineries will honor your Sunday wristband in their tasting rooms, so if you found a new label you loved on Sunday be sure to pay them a visit on Monday and check out their digs. And, of course, another wine you might become starry-eyed over.
