Jonathan Kirby, 56, who remained in the hospital Wednesday afternoon, has been charged with suspicion of burglary, said Officer Bruce Borihanh with LAPD. Kirby's bail has been set at $50,000.

Authorities received a 911 call from the "NCIS: Los Angeles" star's home at about 1 a.m., according to police. Officers arrived at the two-time Grammy Award winner's Blairwood Drive residence and took the male suspect, who was detained by the 44-year-old LL Cool J, into custody.

"The victim was in control of the suspect," said Sgt. Frank Preciado.

The man, who stands 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds, was hospitalized after suffering injuries during a confrontation at the home, police said.

LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, was not injured.

"Anytime someone decides they're going to break into a residence of someone as physically fit as Mr. James Todd Smith, you're probably going to be taken care of," said Preciado. "We don't encourage people to take suspects into custody, but when Mr. Smith went downstairs he was surprised by someone who was not invited."

Officers did not confirm reports that the man suffered a broken jaw and nose, but said he sustained "visible injuries."

"LL COOL J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern," according to a studio statement. "As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter."

LL Cool J will not face charges, police said.

It was not immediately clear how the man entered the residence.

Correction: An earlier version of this article reported Kirby as being 59 years old. He is 56, according to the LA District Attorney's office. The article has been edited to reflect this update.
