Former “Voice Mexico” Contestant Gibran David Martiz Diaz Found Dead After Kidnapping

And tragedy has struck The Voice Mexico once again.

Former contestant Gibran David Martiz Diaz was found dead in Veracruz, Mexico on Saturday, Jan. 18, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 22-year-old singer was allegedly murdered after he had been missing since Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The report states that Diaz was kidnapped less than two weeks ago when armed gunman invaded his Veracruz home while dressed as policemen.

Diaz's body, along with the corpse of an unidentified minor, were reportedly recovered over the weekend following a gunfight between law enforcement and the suspected kidnappers.

Police told THR that Diaz and the other victim were both dead prior to the shootout, which the kidnapping suspects did not survive.

Martiz Diaz participated in the third season of the hit singing competition, known as "La Voz Mexico," in Spanish.

Following the news of his death, Puerto Rican reggaeton duo Wisin &Yandel tweeted about the loss of the young talent. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends and fans of Gibran. We'll miss you brother. May God keep you in his glory," the pair posted in Spanish.

This isn't the first time the show has made headlines for heartbreak. Just over a year ago, former season 2 coach and Grammy-nominated singer Jenni Rivera tragically died in a plane crash in December 2012.
