Metreon to Get Ghostlier as Sony Bails

SoMa's beleaguered Metreon will be getting just a little more beleaguered in the short term as Sony shutters its PlayStation and Style stores in the techno-mall.

The decision should mark the final nail in the coffin for the geeky entertainment fusion concept: Westfield and developer Forest City bought the Metreon from Sony back in 2006, and they plan now to turn it into an outward-facing, food- and culture-dominated venue.

That, along with incoming tenant Tavern on the Green, promises to one day smooth over the eerie post-apocalyptic vibe one gets from a weekday afternoon stroll through the mall. Until then, with Sony vacating their once-so-promising retail clusterf*ck paradise, the apocalypse is just another day closer (and so is the death of the Metreon name itself). Oh, by the way: Tavern on the Green's coming this summer. Eater, we defer to you.
