Volunteers Shave Their Heads for Pediatric Cancer Research

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland held its 8th annual St. Baldrick's event over the weekend, where 238 people shaved their heads to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is perhaps most well-known for its head-shaving events, which began 15 years ago as a challenge between businessmen. Now hundreds of events take place every year around St. Patrick’s Day.

The UCSF head-shaving event raised $187,000, and the hospital hopes the community can help it reach its goal of $200,000.

This year’s events so far have raised a total of over $17,000,000 for childhood cancer research.
